Lancaster, PA –Lancaster County Archives (Archives) announced they have been awarded $4,827.50 from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission. Archives applied for the Historical Archives & Records Care Grant to preserve their entire collection of Mechanic Lien Papers dating back to 1869.
Lancaster County Archives will now undergo the process of preserving the papers that contain information on the builder, architect, date of construction, building materials, dimensions and even the original blueprints of historical homes across Lancaster County. The Lien papers provide an unprecedented level of historical detail of the final years of Victorian architectural styles across the county.
The grant funding will pay for acid-free boxes and folders to properly store historical documents which will be accessible to the public. A digital index is currently available for Lancaster County residents to search online alongside thousands of other historical county documents. The papers are a significant piece of information for those conducting house history research or looking to learn more about Lancasters architectural history. This project is supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Historical Archives and Records Care Grant, a program funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
