Student Poll Worker Program

Students aged seventeen may become involved with their community and engage in the election process by 
applying to the Lancaster County Student Poll Worker Program, as created by 25 P.S. § 2672 (b) of the 
 Pennsylvania Election Code

 
 Whilst serving as clerks and machine inspectors throughout Lancaster County's 240 polling sites, students 
 are permitted the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the election cycle before they come 
 of age to vote. In addition, they receive a wealth of knowledge from experienced poll workers.

 Students aged eighteen may submit their poll worker interest through the regular poll worker program
 here.

Interested students must:

  • Be a United States citizen and a resident of Lancaster County
  • Be enrolled in a secondary educational institution with an exemplary academic record
  • Submit this form with parental and school permission to the Election Office
  • Per the Election Code, there may be no more than two students appointed to a precinct.
  • The student may not serve in the position of Judge of Election, Majority Inspector or Minority Inspector.
Students will receive a follow-up email or phone call asking their preferred areas and shifts.
Compensation and training is provided.

Interested schools may:

  • Designate an individual to serve as a School Coordinator who will liasion with the Election Office
  • Contact the Election Office for further details.
  • All Lancaster County secondary educational institutions are welcome to participate in the program.
Students and schools that participate are eligible to apply for the Governor's Civic Engagement Award.
