About the Council: The council serves to advise and assist the Lancaster County Office of Aging and Board of Commissioners on the development and administration of programs and services to older persons and those with disabilities in Lancaster County, in accordance with the Older Americans’ Act. The council also reviews and approves the annual area plan and budget; conducts public hearings; advocates for the interests of older persons and those with disabilities; comments on policies, programs, and actions which affect older persons.
The council consists of 12-15 individuals and representatives of community organizations appointed by the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners. At least 50% of the members must be 60 years of age or older.
