Beginning in June 1893, all Pennsylvania Clerk of Orphans’ Court were required to keep separate records of death. Township and borough assessors gathered this information and recorded vital information such as place of birth, place of death, cemetery, and cause of death. This record was gradually discontinued at the county level when Pennsylvania officially began maintaining death records in 1906.
Search Tip: Names within the death register are arranged by the first letter of the individual’s surname and chronologically by date recorded. Deaths may have been recorded several months afterwards and not every death was registered. Use the bookmark feature within the index to quickly navigate to the appropriate surname letter section.
